How to Order 3Leaf Edibles for Delivery in California

Here in California, we can enjoy a comfortable existence without ever having to leave our home. The introvert in us rejoices at working on our laptop while sitting comfortably on the couch – no commute, no problem – while knowing that anything imaginable can be delivered thanks to Amazon and UberEats. We can have ramen, cat food, and Nicolas Cage pillow cases dropped off right outside our door, but did you know that you can also have edibles delivered?

Yes, in California you can order cannabis products directly to you. All you need is an internet connection or phone; no medical card required.

There are delivery services all over the State, but none quite like MyJane and Flower Co. MyJane serves the Santa Ana area, while Flower Co. delivers to the Bay Area, and both offer 3Leaf products. These groups don’t just take your order and drop it off. They go above and beyond as cannabis delivery services.

3Leaf and MyJane

3Leaf and MyJane recently partnered together to help you achieve a good night’s sleep. 3Leaf’s ratio-infused Double Chocolate Cookie is available in the new MyJane Sleep Box! We asked their team why they chose to offer 3Leaf to help with sleep, and here’s what they had to say:

“Elevate your dinner with the MyJane approved Double Chocolate Chip Cookie. The 1:1 ratio makes this a low dose edible that delivers on taste and experience. Prepare to enjoy an evening of connection and calmness, by yourself or with a loved one. New to cannabis? Cut the cookie in half and share it with a friend or circle back around to the other half after 2 hours and you’ve had a chance to explore how the cookie works for you.”

Choose from one of Flower Co.’s annual memberships, which start at $79. There’s also the option to choose a free day pass, so you can try before fully committing. Once you’re signed up you’re free to shop! But, because their prices are so astronomically low, their website is only open for orders every week from Friday at 4:20 p.m. until Sunday nights at 11:59 p.m. The limited time window is a pretty fair deal for paying wholesale prices and having edibles delivered conveniently to you anywhere in the Bay area.

Why Micro-dosed Edibles Make the Best Mother’s Day Gift

Your pillar of strength, your rock, your world. Call her what you want – whether she’s your own mother, the mother of your children, your aunt, grandmother, sister, or simply the person in your life who provides you with consistent love, comfort, and sound advice – you should take time this Mother’s Day to make her feel appreciated for everything she does. For the sleepless nights, hours spent worrying, countless meals cooked, drives to football practice, and Saturdays spent at dance recitals, she deserves something more than a bouquet of flowers or a candle. If you don’t have a big budget but still want to show her you care, we have a unique Mother’s Day gift idea for you: micro-dosed edibles.

Was that a scoff we just heard? That isn’t surprising. Many still attach negative stigmas to parents who consume cannabis. But parents, women especially, are actually becoming increasingly open about consuming cannabis for recreational and medical purposes. In a 2017 survey, Eaze Insights found that 63 percent of parents who consume cannabis do so daily. The research found that they enjoy a micro-dose of cannabis at the end of the day after their kids have gone to bed. In Eaze’s 2018 Insights, their research concluded that the number of women who consume cannabis doubled year-over-year between 2017 and 2018. Women now make up 38% of cannabis consumers in California, and that number is steadily increasing.

So, please momentarily suspend your negative preconceptions and ideas of hippie parents, and let us tell you why 3Leaf’s premium, healthy edibles make the best Mother’s Day gift.

Edibles provide a range of calming and therapeutic effects.

Women are using cannabis as a wellness product. In the article Inside the Private World of Mothers Who Smoke Weed, author Christine Organ illustrates how mothers are consuming cannabis to help them manage a variety of needs, from recovering after pregnancy to balancing the endless demands of everyday life. Organ notes how women are reaping the medical benefits of cannabis with no more than a micro-dose.

“Because the amount of cannabis needed to create physical or mental relief is often significantly lower than the amount that causes inebriation, some mothers report that it allows them to manage ailments without losing focus the way alcohol and prescription drugs can make someone feel,” writes Organ before quoting Lea, a mother of three from Illinois: ‘You feel relief, but aren’t tipsy or high,’ explains Lea.”

The image below compares women and men’s reasons for consuming cannabis. As you can see, women are consuming mostly for personal care and sleep.

Any mother can attest that once a baby is born sleep becomes a thing of the past. And yet, sleep is a crucial element of parenting. Sleep increases our ability to focus on multiple tasks, and it keeps us from losing our patience – anyone ever felt cranky and irritable after only a couple hours of sleep? Research confirms that cannabis is an effective natural sleep aid. Moreover, the combination of THC and CBD is proven to be a highly effective combination for inducing restful sleep. A ratio-infused edible with 5mg of THC and 5mg of CBD pairs the relaxing effects of THC with the calming effects of CBD. 3Leaf now has a pair of 1:1 ratio-infused edibles; the Double Chocolate Cookie and Peanut Butter Cookie make a great Mother’s Day gift for anyone who needs some self-love and a good night’s sleep.

Women prefer edibles over other cannabis consumption methods.

After everything that mothers do for us, why would you give her a gift she doesn’t want? With edibles, you’re guaranteed to give the mom in your life a unique Mother’s Day gift that she’ll actually enjoy. According to Eaze Insights, women prefer edibles over other cannabis-infused products because of the low-dose options and the fact that they offer a convenient way to consistently dose.

When shopping for edibles, make sure to only make a purchase from licensed dispensaries. You can find 3Leaf edibles in licensed dispensaries across California. Licensed retailers are required by law to only sell products that are compliant with California cannabis regulations. Compliant products must be lab-tested and consistently dosed in order for retailers to sell them. These rules are in place to make sure that consumers have a safe experience. In a previous blog post, we take an in-depth look at how to tell if your edible is compliant. It’s a great read before shopping at a dispensary; you’ll know exactly what to look for.

Edibles are perfect for beginners.

For the mom who is curious about trying cannabis, edibles make the perfect introduction for beginners. Edibles offer a discreet consumption method for anyone who might still be worried about the stigmas attached to cannabis. 3Leaf edibles, in particular, do not have any cannabis taste or smell. There’s no need to worry about smelling like smoke; instead, you can enjoy the delicious taste of natural, flavorful ingredients in a small, subtle jelly.

Gummies are the preferred edible of choice for most women. At 3Leaf, we put a natural spin on the classic gummy and created our micro-dose Strawberry Fruit Jellies and low-dose Blood Orange Fruit Jellies. We aim to offer healthy edibles with only the highest quality ingredients. We also pride ourselves on our ability to craft meticulously dosed edibles. We spent months working with our food scientist to determine how to properly infuse each edible with pure distillate so that you can enjoy an effective experience, every time. With four jellies per package, these edibles are perfect for anyone who wants to experiment with different doses. Moreover, all 3Leaf products are sold in child-resistant packaging. Moms already have enough to think about; they shouldn’t have to worry about safely storing their edibles at home.

What is 4/20? How it started and how to celebrate it now.

Picture this: it’s 4:20 p.m., 1971, in San Rafael, California. A group of high school friends known as “The Waldos” just met up – it’s time for their daily ritual. They have their joints rolled and their treasure map ready. This is where it all began; this is the legend of 4/20.

The Legend of 4/20

No, we’re not kidding. This really is how 4/20 started. It’s said that The Waldos would meet every day to search for a patch of cannabis with a map they had been given by one of their brothers. He was a Coast Guard who was worried about getting caught for growing plants, and he told them that if they found the patch they could keep it. What started as a group of friends enjoying cannabis and searching for treasure on a hand-drawn map has turned into a holiday in the likes of St. Patrick’s Day and Mardi Gras.

Around the world, April 20 is a day to both celebrate legalization and advocate to destigmatize and decriminalize cannabis. Internationally, communities will celebrate in all kinds of ways. Canadians will be celebrating their first 4/20 with legalized adult-use on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Canada is the only G7 country and the second country in the world to legalize cannabis for adult-use. Here in California, we’ll be celebrating our second fully legal 4/20. It’s amazing to see people in our State finally benefit from access to cannabis for both recreational and medical needs. April 20th marks more than just a day to celebrate cannabis, it’s a day to advocate for things like federal legalization in the United States to give more people access to the many benefits provided by this amazing plant.

3Leaf micro-dosed Strawberry Fruit Jellies are the perfect party favor to share with friends this 4/20.

4/20: True or False

Whether you’re new to cannabis or have been partaking since bell-bottoms and feathered hair was the latest, the key to experiencing the day is sharing with friends. So, grab a pack of 3Leaf Fruit Jellies – four jellies per bag makes them perfect for sharing – and pick a few of your favorite people to play a little game of True or False: 4/20 Edition:

  1. There’s a highway in Ontario, Canada called Highway 420. Cannabis used to grow there freely in the 1960s.
  •   True
  1. 420 is a police radio dispatch code for cannabis.
  •   False.
  1. 4/20 is the day that Bob Marley died.
  •   False.
  1. California’s Medical Marijuana Program Act is also known as S.B. 420.
  •   True
  1. There are 420 known chemical compounds in cannabis.
  •   False.
  1. All the clocks in the film Pulp Fiction are set to 4:20.
  •   False – but nearly all of them are set to 4:20. A couple of serious movie-buffs found a few clocks that were off.
  1. William Shakespeare was a fan of cannabis.

Fitness Motivation: How Cannabis Motivated Dexter Holman to Lose Over 100 Pounds

From NCAA defensive lineman weighing over 300 pounds to fit-bodied reality tv-star, Dexter Holman tells 3Leaf about his weight loss journey and how cannabis helped motivate him while overcoming stress, pressure, and Khloe Kardashian.

You grew up in Georgia and played football for years. Has cannabis always been a part of your life?

When I was growing up, like everybody else, I didn’t associate cannabis with being an athlete. It was something that I would do in the off-season in both high-school and college because of the risk of getting in trouble

I played college football at Coastal Carolina University. I was playing defensive tackle, which means I was really, really big. I had gained a lot of weight. I was gaining about 25 pounds per year. And while it was intentional, it wasn’t healthy weight and it got out of control. I lost myself in trying to be this football player, trying to make it in the NFL. I didn’t make it, and once everything was over, all I had left was all this weight.

My cannabis use really kicked into gear when I was trying to lose weight. At my biggest, I was 328 pounds and when I moved to California I weighed 275 pounds. I moved out here knowing I wanted to make myself better and also motivate others at the same time.

In 2016, Dexter moved to California with the intent of launching his career as a stand-up comedian. While performing at The Lexington in Los Angeles a producer from Khloe Kardashian’s Revenge Body asked him to be a part of the show. What ensued was nothing short of a physical and mental rollercoaster.

It was 14 weeks of filming and there is no way I would have made it through that without cannabis [laughs]. It was one of the most stressful situations I’ve ever been in; it was a lot of pressure. And I was putting my body through so many things that it wasn’t used to.

At that time, I was alone and kind of depressed. And cannabis helped me to get out of that depression, out of that feeling of helplessness, and back to that feeling that I could do things. It helped me realize that I am not my fat and I am not my weight.

One of the coolest things I got to do while I was on the show was work out with Michael B. Jordan. At my heaviest I was working out with him, and I remember thinking that the only difference between me and Michael B. Jordan is habits. It’s what you choose to do on a daily basis. So I changed all my habits because I want my habits to represent what I want for my life. I don’t want to just take what I can get. My goal every day is to make myself better than yesterday.

“I want my habits to represent what I want for my life,” says Holman.

What does a typical day of training look like for you, and how does cannabis benefit your routine?

Today, I ran a mile-and-a-half to the gym and followed it with an upper body workout – triceps, biceps, shoulders, and back. Then I sweat it out in the sauna for 25 minutes and ran the mile-and-a-half back home. I typically train for two to three hours a day.

People think that cannabis is only for getting stoned, but that isn’t true – just look at me. It puts you in an optimal state of consciousness where you can really focus on yourself and the task at hand.

Before a workout, I use it to help me get into the moment. Micro-dosing helps me get into that flow-state, it’s perfect for that. It puts you in a state where you aren’t spaced out and your coordination isn’t off. It quiets my thoughts about everybody else, my relationships, my stresses, and whatever else I have going on in my life – it lets me just be in that moment. And that’s where I like to be when I workout. I like to be in the moment and not focused on anything except for my workout because that’s what gets the best results.

After, it helps me with my pain management. Initially, I was always sore because I was working out so much more than I was used to. I’ll get a massage with CBD topicals after a workout to help my muscles from getting sore throughout the day. I also use it for sleep management – rest is crucial for recovery. I’ll smoke and eat edibles to help me get a good sleep. I wouldn’t recommend it to the whole world, but for me personally, it’s what helps me.

For those who are interested in incorporating cannabis into their fitness routine, what would you recommend?

I think the best way to start out is doing something more like yoga, something that you can ease into so that you can observe your body and how it reacts to the cannabis and your movements.

A lot of times before hitting the gym people will feel like, “ah, I don’t want to be here.” But when you get in that flow-sate from cannabis it puts you in that moment, in that headspace of: I’m here and I just want to do the best that I possibly can with my time. And micro-dosing is perfect for that. Really, it’s up to you to figure out what works for you. Micro-dosing is definitely a good place to start though.

Dexter knows what works for him and doesn’t recommend his consumption methods or dose for everyone. Similar to what Gina discusses in our last post, dosage and preferred consumption method are entirely personal.

“My goal every day is to make myself better than yesterday,” says Holman.

How to Tell If Your Edible Is Safe

You care about what you put into your body; you do your research, consult with the people you trust, and you take time to check the ingredients and nutrition facts. When it comes to choosing edibles, why lower your standards? If you ask us you shouldn’t, especially now that you don’t have to. With the legalization of adult-use in California, a variety of regulations were introduced and industry standards were set to ensure that consumers can safely enjoy  cannabis products. Edibles have a particular set of regulations that manufacturers must meet. And these regulations cover everything from dosage per serving to the packaging the product is sold in. Compliant edibles allow you to enjoy a pleasant and stress-free cannabis experience.

However, we are still in the early stages of the State legalized cannabis industry and a black market still exists. So, there are edibles available that may not be compliant with the State’s regulations, and therefore may not be entirely safe for consumption. Non-compliant edibles do not undergo lab-testing, and so we can’t be entirely sure if they are free from  pesticides or solvents. Black market products may not be tested to ensure that they are accurately dosed, making it hard to feel confident of a consistent and safe experience. Edibles manufacturers that are compliant have to maintain transparency in listing every ingredient included in each baked good, fruit jelly, or beverage; non-compliant manufacturers may not adhere to the same standards, leaving you to play a guessing game. And when you care about the food you’re consuming, guessing games simply do not cut it.

3Leaf is proud to be fully compliant with California cannabis regulations, and our simple diagram below points out the key indicators of how to tell if your edible is compliant.

1.  Tamper evidence.

Edibles must have some sort of seal to indicate that the package has not been opened before you make your purchase. In our case, 3Leaf packages are heat sealed. You’ll find that you can’t open one without tearing into the small grooves that you see here.

2. Opaque Packaging

The product within the package cannot be visible whatsoever.

3. Child-Resistant Packaging.

Starting in January 2019, according to the new draft of California cannabis regulations, edibles will no longer have to be sold in child resistant packaging. This will come under review in January 2020.

That being said, we have always and will always sell 3Leaf edibles in child-resistant packaging.

4. California’s Cannabis Symbol.

Edibles must show the California Cannabis Symbol on the front of the package so that anyone can easily tell that it is a cannabis infused product and not a traditional food item.

5. Cannabis Infused.

In addition to the California Cannabis Symbol, the words Cannabis Infused must appear directly near the product name. It has to be crystal clear that the package contains cannabis. And again, this must appear on the front of the package.

6. Cannabinoid Content.

Cannabinoids must be listed in milligrams per serving for edibles. Both tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) must be listed on the front of the package.

7. Serving Size.

Product labels must specify if the package contains multiple servings. And if there is more than one serving the packaging must be resealable. Compliant edibles will specify the total amount of cannabis in the package, as well as the total amount of individual pieces.

8. Government warning.

The government warning must appear with the exact wording you see here. It must be plainly visible and easy to read, and it can appear on either the back or the front of the packaging.

9. Manufacturer Contact Information.

This makes it easy to verify the producer of the edibles and provides a convenient way to contact them should you need to.

10. Proposition 65 Warning.

Under California’s Proposition 65, a product that contains any of the harmful chemicals listed here must have a Prop-65 warning. The warning must appear in plain site on either side of the packaging with no obstructions from other words or designs.

11. Ingredients list.

All of the food ingredients must be listed from most to least. This allows you to make better informed purchasing decisions.

12. Nutritional facts.

The mandatory nutrients that must be listed are: calories, total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, total carbohydrate, dietary fiber, sugar, protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, and iron.

When purchasing any cannabis products it’s best to buy compliant products from licensed California retailers. This will help ensure a safe and effective cannabis experience. If you have any questions about compliant edibles, or if you would like to learn more about 3Leaf, please reach out to us at [email protected].

Ratio Products: The Balance You’ve Been Looking For

Balance. It’s something we all strive for, and we make choices every day that tip the scales one way or the other. Things like deciding whether to stay late at the office, or leave early to make it home for dinner with the family; to sit at your desk to get through emails or take 30 minutes to get a workout in; to choose the buttery scone or bowl of oats to go with your latte order. It’s all a part of the human experience, something we’re all trying to navigate.

If you are suffering from decision fatigue, one less thing you have to worry about is choosing between THC and CBD. Ratio products offer a combination of the two, and have become increasingly popular with those who want to experience the benefits of both cannabinoids for  what many call a balanced cannabis experience. If you’re curious about the effects of ratio products, read on to gain a basic understanding of the two most popular cannabinoids and what you can expect when consuming them together.

Wait, you keep using the word cannabinoid. What is that?

Cannabinoids are a class of chemical compounds that produce a diverse range of healing and therapeutic effects. There are two types of cannabinoids: endocannabinoids are naturally produced within the human body and phytocannabinoids are found within the trichomes of the cannabis plant.

Both phyto- and endocannabinoids work with receptors in our endocannabinoid system (ECS). which plays a key role in maintaining homeostasis within our body.

The ECS works to balance the effects of both internal and external stressors, and it would not be able to do so without the help of cannabinoids.

The two most commonly recognized receptors in the ECS are CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are predominantly found in the central nervous system and peripheral organs, and CB2 receptors are primarily located in the immune system.

Now let’s take a look at two of the most commonly recognized cannabinoids and the effects they produce before we learn how they work together.

Tetrahydrocannabinol – more than a means to an elevated state of being.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is known for its elevating and uplifting effects, commonly referred to as a high. THC is typically associated with recreational cannabis use because of the feelings of euphoria that it’s able to produce. But its medicinal properties should not be overlooked.

Research shows that THC can act as an effective antidepressant. A low-dose can elevate mood and calm anxiety, and is proven to be useful in treating post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as severe depression and anxiety. In one particular study, THC showed significant antidepressant like effects when the participants consumed a dose of 2.5 mg – a micro-dose by community standards.

Not only can THC improve our mental-state, it’s also known to treat various physical ailments and issues. It offers relief from chronic pain, acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory – helpful for those with arthritis – and is proven to alleviate nausea and vomiting – often a side-effect of chemotherapy treatment.

It’s important to note that THC is a powerful psychoactive stimulant that can produce intoxicating effects, which can be disorienting and sometimes unpleasant. To avoid any adverse effects, start with a micro- or low-dose of THC, and if you choose to increase the dose, do it slowly. Wait at least two hours before consuming more, especially with edibles as it takes longer to feel the effects.

Another way to mitigate the chance of feeling over-stimulated from THC is to incorporate CBD into your consumption method.

Cannabidiol – healing, therapeutic, and so much more.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is appealing to many because it produces a myriad of healing and medicinal effects, but is non-intoxicating. If you want to avoid feeling high, CBD is a great option for you.

After consuming CBD, you will typically feel more relaxed and less tense.

In a study from HelloMD, 80 percent of respondents said that they found CBD to be an effective form of treatment. Those who participated in the study used CBD most commonly for insomnia, depression, anxiety, and joint pain. CBD is also proven to effectively treat such issues as: epileptic seizures, muscle convulsions and spasms, psoriasis and eczema, and inflammation.

CBD has become increasingly popular amongst those who are physically active. After a workout, a dose of CBD will help relieve aches and pains and keep your muscles from tensing up. And, since CBD is non-intoxicating, you can feel great about consuming after your early-morning workout before you head into the office. The CBD will allow your body to feel relaxed while allowing your mind to feel clear- the perfect combination for tackling the day ahead.

Better together: when THC and CBD are combined.

The harmonious combination of THC and CBD produces a unique set of benefits that cannot be achieved when consumed on their own.

Because of the way in which CBD interacts with our ECS receptors, CBD tends to elevate the positive effects of THC while minimizing the negative. By inhibiting THC’s ability to bind with our receptors, you are able to avoid any overstimulation, and instead achieve a more relaxed state-of-being. And, CBD actually slows down the breakdown of THC in the liver, therefore prolonging the medicinal effects of THC. It isn’t all one sided though. THC enhances the effects of CBD, because it binds more effectively with our CB1 receptors.

Ratio products are offered in different combinations, so you can choose from a variety of ratios to meet your specific needs:

  • Lower in THC and higher in CBD, i.e. 2.5 mg THC to 25 mg of CBD. This combination will allow you to enjoy the medicinal benefits of CBD with a mild psychoactive experience from the THC.
  • Equal parts THC and CBD, i.e. 5 mg of THC to 5 mg of CBD. Remember, the THC will elevate the healing effects of CBD, while the CBD will calm the elevating effects of THC. This allows for a relaxing, therapeutic experience.

We still have a long way to go in understanding the effects of both cannabinoids individually and collectively, but there is enough evidence to prove that the combination of the two are certainly effective. Both offer the benefits of alleviating chronic pain, minimizing anxiety, treating depression, and acting as an anti-inflammatory and sleep-aid. But when combined, the two are all the more powerful.
