How to dose THC infused edibles (featuring This Cannabis Life)

Cannabis Edibles Dosage

Edibles can be important in helping you manage your overall wellness. Incorporating the right edible products that provide the proper dosage of THC, with no residual effects and simply taste great, can be immensely effective. They can help you manage pain, fall asleep at night, and generally make dealing with the regular stresses of life easier to overcome.

While cannabis is very safe, ingesting too much THC can cause discomfort. So, we suggest you start low and go slow.

Morgan English is a cannabis expert and founder of This Cannabis Life; she understands the challenge of dosing edibles.

“For me, edibles have been really tricky because I worry. As soon as I eat an edible I think it is going to hit me too hard… with 3Leaf each one is individually dosed at 10mg per serving which is wonderful. I can just eat it. Normally I feel it after 30 minutes. I don’t need to smoke and it gives me the same effects.”

Watch the clip below and let Morgan be your guide to edibles dosage.

Cannabis is now legal in California for anyone over 21, and we have stepped in to a new era. 3Leaf wants to help you explore and uncover the benefits of cannabis and the ways it can be consumed, so we have answered a few questions for those who are curious about the basics.

What are THC and CBD, and how do they affect my body?

THC and CBD are the two most commonly used cannabinoids. THC binds to CB1 receptors, creating a euphoric, calming and mind-relaxing effect, and allowing the body to achieve balance. CBD binds with both SSRI and CB2 receptors, does not have a psychoactive effect, and provides a body-centric experience, relaxing muscles and joints. Both THC and CBD are valuable for relaxation, and health and wellness purposes.

Why should I use a cannabis-infused edible?

Oral ingestion is one of the safest ways to use cannabis, and also one of the most beneficial. Edibles remove the potential risks associated with smoking cannabis, while allowing your body to absorb more cannabinoids.

When a person smokes cannabis, the effects are felt immediately and can last from 1-3 hours. When consuming a single serving of an edible, it can take from 30-45 minutes to take effect, depending on body composition, metabolism and other ingredients in the edible. People may wish to consume a second serving of an edible after an initial 30-45 minutes to have an increased effect. The cannabis effects from an edible can last between 5-8 hours, providing a longer period of relaxation and potential relief.

What is a good starting dosage for edibles?

All users are encouraged to start with a single serving, dosed with no more than 10 mg of cannabis. It is important not to consume edibles on a empty stomach, and to wait up to three hours before consuming more.

How do I make sure that I am consuming the correct dose?

Dosage is extremely personal, and depends on factors such as metabolism, tolerance and body composition. Starting with a low dose of 10 mg and building to meet your needs is the best way to ensure that you are not consuming too much THC too soon.

What effects will I feel after consuming an edible product?

Properly dosed edibles (10mg or less) will leave you feeling relaxed, uplifted, creative, focused and calm, depending on the level of THC consumed and the ingredients.

We put together a list of common terms to help you understand different aspects of cannabis. Knowing these terms can make it easier to enjoy the type of cannabis effects that meet your needs. .

CANNABINOIDS

The cannabis plant produces a large variety of cannabinoids – the term for the many different molecules that make up the plant. THC and CBD are two of the most well-known cannabinoids and are at the forefront of conversations around cannabis.

THC

THC engages receptors found in the body’s endocannabinoid system. These receptors, located in the brain, are called CB1 receptors. They activate a large number of processes in the body such as sleep and appetite stimulation, and control pain sensations. THC is the only compound found in cannabis to date that produces a strong psychoactive effect, or high. THC has been proven to have appetite-stimulating, anti-nauseate and sleep inducing properties.

CBD

CBD engages the body’s CB2 receptors, as well as the serotonin receptors in the body. New research shows that CBD has an affinity toward serotonin receptors, and will bond with them before bonding with CB2 receptors. CBD is often used to promote relaxation, stabilize moods, help manage pain, and reduce inflammation.

STRAIN

There are many different types of cannabis plants, referred to as strains. Different strains are distinct in their levels of cannabinoids and terpenes, thus producing various degrees of effects and flavors.

Making sense of California’s new cannabis regulations

The cannabis industry in California will see major changes as of January 1, 2018, when the State’s recently released regulations come into effect. These regulations cover all aspects of the industry including cultivation, extraction, manufacturing, distribution and retail.  This is part of ushering in an exciting new era of fully legal adult recreation use of cannabis in California.

Whether you are a recreational or medical user, here is what you need to know about the new regulations:

  • You must be at least 21 years of age to purchase recreational cannabis products.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age, and have a valid physician’s letter of recommendation, to purchase medical cannabis products.

Some of the rules that apply to retail dispensary owners are also important for consumers to be aware of.

  • Dispensaries must have a valid retail license issued by the State of California to sell you cannabis products of any kind.
  • Retail dispensaries can be open for business from 6AM to 10PM.
  • Dispensaries should be located at least 600 feet away from schools, day-care centers or youth centers.
  • Retail dispensaries and their staff are not allowed to offer free samples to recreational cannabis customers.
  • Retailers should not sell more than eight grams of concentrated cannabis to a single individual, per day.

There are rules that apply specifically to edibles products that retailers, manufacturers and distributors must abide by. As consumers, you should be aware of the following:

  • Edibles products, whether for recreational use, or for medicinal use, must not have more than 10 mg of THC in each serving.
  • For edibles sold for recreation use, the package these products come in must not have more than 100 mg of THC in total.
  • The dosage of THC and/or CBD per serving should be listed on the package.

And finally, here is what you should look for when purchasing edibles and other infused products.

  • Products should have a list of all the ingredients on the label.
  • Edibles products must be sold in a package that is child-proof; meaning children aged five and under would have difficulty opening the container.
  • Packages containing more than one serving should be re-sealable so that the container can remain child-proof after being opened for the first time.

The State has put considerable thought into ensuring customers in California can safely experience cannabis products.  It’s important for you to be aware of these new regulations so that you can make safe and informed decisions when buying edibles.

Thankful for healthy, cannabis infused snacks this holiday season.

There is family to visit, turkey to devour, and football to watch. But there are also arrangements to make, family members to keep at bay, the stress of last minute guests, and dishes that didn’t quite turn out the way we expected—here’s some advice on how our low-dose edibles will help to keep the peace and positivity this Thanksgiving.

Manage the stress of prep and hosting

A low dose of THC can help you keep things in perspective when your hyper-critical mother comments on the size of your turkey, or your over-zealous uncle spills red wine all over your white couch.

Relax and enjoy family time

Indulge in a discreet, low-dose of edibles so you can tolerate your brother’s hot take on politics, and endure your aunt prying into your love life.

Recovery

Cannabis works wonders in helping you feel good when your body thinks you’ve gone too farwhether you got sacked in the family football game or had one too many whiskies, cannabis will cure what ails you during your Thanksgiving recuperation.

Stay thankful

Cannabis can help us gain new insight into lives, habits and relationships. It removes filters and brings honest reflection. Our low dose edibles provide a safe and controlled way to explore the emotionally healing properties of cannabis, and bring some perspective on the things we should be thankful for this weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Low-dose edibles will help you accomplish your goals

Evelyn, aged 68 and the subject of this story, is a competitive horseback rider. At a recent event as she crossed the finish line the thrill of victory washed over her; she knew she had scored well and won the event. As she was going through the movements with focus and a clear head she felt completely in-synch with her horse.  It all came together for Evelyn, the months of practice, the early mornings and all the hard work.

Whether you compete in Dressage like Evelyn, or have other ambitions like getting in shape or achieving a professional goal, we all relish the feelings of accomplishment and success.

Evelyn will tell you that 3Leaf’s low dose edibles were an important part of her achieving peak performance and winning her recent horseback riding event. While she’s won competitions in the past, she says this particular show was the greatest performance of her life because she was able to get out of her head and feel at one with her horse. This cohesiveness and level of connectivity in a performance was something she had never experience before, and she attributes her success to edibles. “They [edibles] enabled me to be totally present and focus on showing well,” says Evelyn. “I didn’t have to worry about being distracted by the environment and pressure of the competition.”

Evelyn began horseback riding when she was eight years old, and has been competing in Dressage since 1995. The sport requires a deep connection and understanding with one’s horse, as the movements are extremely intricate and require tactful precision. Evelyn is also an experienced cannabis user. She incorporates it into her athletic training to help her focus during practice and assist in post-training recovery. Cannabis is used regularly by athletes as it can reduce joint inflammation, relieve muscle aches, and calms nerves.

“I use it to reduce performance anxiety prior to competing,” says Evelyn. “It’s effective and gives me the mental and physical capacity to execute the task at hand.”

Initially, Evelyn was apprehensive about incorporating 3Leaf edibles into her athletic training. After a negative experience in the past with inconsistently dosed edibles, she was content to enjoy 3Leaf recreationally, but was apprehensive about introducing cannabis back into her training regimen.

When she decided to try edibles again, she followed recommendations and started with small amounts. Because the body metabolizes cannabis differently when it’s ingested, it is recommended that both new and experienced users start off eating a small amount of an edible, and slowly increase it to meet personal needs.

“I felt reduced performance anxiety and was significantly more aware of my physical state,” says Evelyn. “I was able to perform in a fluid, relaxed manner.”

For her recent competition she performed so well that her daughter, who also rides competitively, couldn’t help but remark on Evelyn’s performance. She said had never seen her mother so calm, connected and aware.

Evelyn’s performance on the second day of the competition was as strong as the first. The predictability of her cannabis experience reduced her performance anxiety even further, which allowed Evelyn to focus solely on performing to the best of her abilities.

Evelyn feels that the consistent low-dose of the 3leaf edible allowed her to enjoy the benefits of cannabis without having to worry about any negative side effects. She says was able to relax her mind and body, and completely connect with her horse. Her clear focus and determination lead to what she calls a once-in-a-lifetime performance.

Thank you for reading, we hope you enjoyed hearing about Evelyn’s experience. 3Leaf edibles are now available through dispensaries and delivery platforms in California. Click here to find one near you, and enjoy feeling enabled by cannabis.
