Canna-Basics for Back to School

September should be the month for resolutions instead of January. Hear us out. September brings routine, schedules, and commitments, i.e. order. Summer is without-a-doubt great, but we can all admit that between July and August routines relax, priorities slip, and less gets done at work – we won’t tell your boss if you don’t tell ours. September brings a welcome bit of structure back into all aspects of our lives. And structure brings clarity. In January, you’re still in holiday mode. You’re coming down from the abundance of food and festivities, and you’re also dealing with the cold drudge of winter. This is a terrible time to set positive intentions for yourself. Yes, September means your kids are back at school, which means you have projects to help with and plays and sporting events to attend. And yes, with your boss back from summer vacation you can’t leave the office an hour early. But, like we said September brings structure and order, and these bring clarity. If you still can’t see it our way, if all you can see is the mountain of social, parental, and professional commitments that you have to live up to until Christmas break, come to our party.

You read it right. 3Leaf is having a party – a social commitment you’ll actually want to  attend – and it’s a celebration of back to routine and back to school! We teamed up with our friend Cyntivee to celebrate September, back to school, and all the ways in which cannabis can help you prepare for the busy season ahead! First, check out some of what you can expect from the event, including topics we’ll be discussing with our interactive panel of cannabis experts:

After, we’ll give you all the details for 3Leaf & Cyntivee’s Enlighten and Elevate: Canna-Basics for Back to School.

Busting Cannabis Myths

Consuming cannabis does not make you a bad person, nor does it make you a bad parent. In fact, parents are one of the largest population segments who consume cannabis daily. In a study of 10,000 California cannabis consumers, one in five respondents were parents, and of that, 63% consume cannabis daily. You can read all about this in the report on Modern Cannabis Consumers from Eaze

95% of parents surveyed reduced their opiate use because of cannabis consumption.

The report also shows that 78% of parents surveyed drink alcohol, and of that, 88% reduced their drinking because of their cannabis consumption. In addition, 51% of parents surveyed have been prescribed opiates. Of that percentage, 95% reduced their opiate use because of cannabis consumption. Those are staggering statistics.

Given how busy our lives are, it isn’t surprising that Americans are searching for a way to help unwind at the end of the day or sleep through the night. Who wants to wake up at 2 a.m. with a racing mind, honestly? The effects of a couple of glasses of wine after a day of meetings and getting one kid to swimming and the other to gymnastics are a warm and welcome benefit. But when those effects carry into the next day by way of a hangover, and you feel hazy and tired or short on patience, this doesn’t do anything for you or your kids or your partner or your co-workers. Cannabis offers an effective alternative to a glass of wine at the end of the day, especially a low-dose of cannabis. A ratio-infused edible with 5mg of THC and 5mg of CBD, like 3Leaf’s Peanut Butter Cookie and Double Chocolate Cookie, provide relaxing effects that you’re looking for, minus the hangover the following day. Moreover, 3Leaf edibles offer low-calorie and low-sugar option so you can enjoy the benefits of cannabis without the guilt. Where the average 5oz. glass of wine has 120 calories, 3Leaf’s natural Fruit Jellies, on the other hand, contain 10 calories per piece.

3Leaf's Blood Orange Fruit Jellies. With four jellies per package, each with a low-dose of 5mg THC per piece, 20mg THC total per package. These natural jellies offer an effective way to control your dose.

3Leaf’s Strawberry Fruit Jellies and Blood Orange Fruit Jellies are made with real fruit puree and contain no artificial flavors or colors.

Cannabis can also act as an effective sleep-aid, making it the perfect natural alternative to prescribed sleep medication and opioids. 3Leaf’s Quinoa Granola Bite and Coconut Oatmeal Cookie are often enjoyed 30 to 45 minutes before bed. Many enjoy the combination of 10mg of THC distillate with high-quality, low-sugar ingredients like quinoa, oats, and agave nectar:

“These edibles were great because I was able to get pain relief and an uplifting experience (probably from the superfoods) and then when I upped my dosage I was able to get the sleep relief I needed.”

You must have questions after reading that cannabis can be a great substitute for your glass of wine and prescription medication. That’s completely understandable. Come to Enlighten and Elevate: Canna-Basics for Back to School on September 26 where you’ll have ample opportunity to ask all of your cannabis questions to our panel of cannabis experts, which includes Dr. Jessica Knox, CEO of the American Cannabinoid Group. She belongs to a family of reputable physicians, “with backgrounds in Emergency Medicine, Anesthesia, Family Medicine, Integrative Medicine, and Preventive Medicine,” all of whom, “are internationally recognized as thought leaders in the care of the endocannabinoid system and cannabis therapeutics.”

Cannabis for Wellness

Source.

The art of balancing the duties of parenting with professional goals and expectations, along with making personal time for yourself is exactly that, an art. This pressure exists in society today like we’ve never seen before. There’s an expectation to be the best parent, the hardest worker, the most loving partner. That’s a lot of things to be great at all at once; it’s a lot to live up to. It can be overwhelming. It’s no wonder that people are cracking under the pressure with anxiety.

The statistics above show that cannabis offers an effective way to manage and alleviate anxiety. You can find out the other ways in which cannabis benefits Californian’s health and wellness in this 2017 report. Or, if you’d like first-hand information, come to our event on September 26 in Oakland to hear from Jennifer Skog, Founder and Editor-In-Chief of MJ Lifestyle. Jennifer has tons of experience with balancing multiple priorities at once – she’s been doing so with the help of cannabis for the past couple decades. Jennifer has taken her background as a fashion photographer and creative director and applied it to cannabis. Her work aims to alleviate the shame and stigma associated with being a cannabis consumer by showing that all kinds of people use cannabis for a wide variety of reasons. She shows cannabis and the people who enjoy its benefits in an elevated light. She’ll be on the panel alongside Dr. Knox to share her knowledge and answer your questions.

Introduction to micro-dosing with edibles

Not only will there be an interactive panel with a Q&A at Enlighten and Elevate: Canna-Basics for Back to School on September 26, we’re also premiering EDIBLES 101, a video from Item9 Productions. The video is hosted by Cynthia Villamizer, Founder of Cyntivee and our amazing partner in bringing this upcoming event to you! The video takes a thorough look at micro-dosing with edibles and how this can benefit you and your busy active life. We don’t want to give anything else away though! You can get a first look at the EDIBLES 101 video and ask Cynthia your questions after if you join us at the EVB Lounge in Oakland on September 26.

To give you an idea of what to expect, watch the recap video of the last event Cynthia hosted in the Enlighten and Elevate series:

What to know about shopping at a licensed dispensary

As a new consumer, getting up the nerve to shop at a dispensary can be a big hurdle to overcome. We understand if you have questions on your mind, such as: how do I talk to a budtender; what do I need to bring; is the place clean and safe; what kind of cannabis product am I even looking for? To help alleviate your angst, we’re giving you the opportunity to ask some of your questions at our upcoming event.

Kevin Ahaesy, Founder and CEO of ECO Cannabis, will be on the panel to give you a true depiction of a licensed California dispensary. ECO Cannabis is an Oakland dispensary known for its stunning interior aesthetic and outstanding service. Their staff has a reputation for being friendly, inviting, and above all else, knowledgeable. Kevin is regarded for his active support of Oakland’s cannabis equity program, which aims to address and repair the adverse effects of cannabis policies on members of minority and low-income communities.

What to Know Before You Travel With Cannabis

Road-trip season is upon us and we could not be happier about it. There’s nothing like that feeling, you know the one, when you make it out of the city to the freedom of the open road. As the traffic thins out you feel yourself start to relax and breath a little easier. You could take a day-trip, or embark on an adventure with multiple stops along the way. The point is to get away and experience something new. It’s amazing what new experiences can do for bringing a bit of ease and clarity back into your life.

Cannabis elevates the ease and relaxation that comes from being on vacation. It makes us feel more connected to ourselves and our surroundings. It’s one of the main reasons why people have consumed cannabis for centuries. The key to having an enjoyable experience with cannabis is a low dose. What’s considered a low dose will vary somewhat from person-to-person. For example, our friend Cameron over at Just Another Jay is a long-time cannabis consumer who considers a low dose for himself to be around 15mg of THC. He has a higher tolerance level and he has spent time figuring out the dose and consumption method that works best for him.

For new consumers, who typically have a lower tolerance and less experience experimenting with cannabis, we recommend starting with an edible with 2.5mg of THC. Edibles offer a discreet way to enjoy cannabis. Added bonus, you don’t have to worry about the side-effects of smoking. 3Leaf’s Strawberry Fruit Jellies contain 2.5mg of THC per piece and have four jellies per package. They’re meticulously dosed to ensure that you have a consistent experience. And with four jellies per package you can easily build on your dose to meet your needs. You’re likely to find that 2.5mg of THC will mildly elevate the sensation of the sun on your skin and the colors of the trees when you spend the day at the lake; or, you’ll see how the taste of your favorite ice cream is that much more delicious and refreshing. But, like we said, cannabis offers a personal experience for each individual, so you’ll have to find out for yourself.

3Leaf's Strawberry Fruit Jellies contain 2.5 milligrams of THC, which makes them the perfect micro-dosed edible to add to your road trip.

Our healthy snacks also make an excellent addition to your summer adventures. You could be like Jamie Evans, The Herb Somm, and bring 3Leaf on a hike

One of my favorite hiking snacks is 3Leaf’s Quinoa Granola Bite. Infused with 10 milligrams of THC, each bite is packed with protein from nutritious flax and quinoa, making these delicious treats a perfect low-dose solution for the health conscious.”

After a full day of hiking and exploring or whatever else your road trip brings, a ratio-infused edible will help you relax into a restful sleep so that you can be ready to go again the next day. Ratio-infused products contain a blend of THC and CBD. THC provides psychoactive effects that, when consumed in a low dose, range from therapeutic and relaxing to elevating and energizing. CBD on the other hand is non-intoxicating. CBD allows you to experience the healing benefits of cannabis without the high.

Ratio-infused edibles offer the best of both THC and CBD. The combination of the two creates a balanced experience. THC elevates the effects of CBD, and CBD mellows the psychoactive effects of THC. A ratio-infused edible, like 3Leaf’s Double Chocolate Cookie or Peanut Butter Cookie, makes a great alternative to a glass of wine at the end of the day. These products provide a relaxing experience from a deliciously tasty treat. Moreover, cannabis doesn’t give you a hangover. So you can comfortably unwind after a full day of activities with one of these edibles and still be clear-headed and energized the following day.

Now that you have an idea of how cannabis can add to your adventures, it’s time to make some plans for your road-trip! Below you’ll find how to safely travel with cannabis. But first and foremost and above-all-else, never drive while intoxicated. Remember that the effects of edibles can last for up to eight hours, so plan accordingly.

If You’re Staying in California

If you’re in California, like us, take advantage of the beautiful coastal highways. We love the views near Big Sur.

Big Sur, California

Not only does California offer beautiful scenery, we also have some of the best cannabis products in the world. California has been at the forefront of cannabis culture for decades. The Bay Area’s counterculture movement in the 1960’s paved the way for the legal cannabis market that we know today. Now, both adult-use and medical-use are legal in California. And although cannabis is more accessible and accepted here there are still rules to be aware of:

  • You must be 21 or older to purchase, consume, or grow cannabis.
  • As of January 1, 2018, you do not need a medical marijuana card or physician recommendation to purchase cannabis products in California.
  • Only buy products from licensed California dispensaries to ensure that you are consuming safe and compliant products
  • When shopping at a licensed dispensary, make sure to bring two pieces of government issued ID and cash.
  • You may possess 28.5 grams (one ounce) of cannabis flower and 8 grams of concentrated cannabis.
  • You can consume cannabis on private property but you cannot consume, smoke, eat, or vape cannabis in public places.  Property owners and landlords may ban the use and possession of cannabis on their properties.
  • Even though it is legal under California law, you cannot consume or possess cannabis on federal lands like national parks, even if the park is in California.

3Leaf products are available in licensed retailers across California. Click here to find a store near you

If You’re Traveling to Other Parts of the U.S.

Although cannabis is legal in other parts of the United States, you are not permitted to cross State lines with cannabis whatsoever. So, if you plan on taking 3Leaf on your road trip, plan for exploring within California state-lines.

That being said, the Transportation Security Administration recently updated their medical marijuana policy, and you are now allowed to fly anywhere in the U.S. with hemp-derived CBD products or any cannabis products approved by the FDA.

If You’re Traveling Outside the U.S.

Adult-use is legal in 11 States plus D.C., and medical-use is legal in 33 States plus D.C. Cannabis is not yet legal on a federal level in the U.S. In fact, it is still classified as a Schedule 1 restricted substance.

To our north, Canada has set an example for full cannabis legalization. On October 16, 2018 adult-use and medical-use became legal across the country. At the end of this year, edibles, topicals, and extracts will be added to the array of legal products available for purchase from licensed Canadian retailers.

If you plan on travelling beyond the U.S. to Canada or any other place where cannabis is legal, do not cross any borders with cannabis products, and do not attempt to travel home with cannabis products even if they were purchased from a licensed seller in a legal country. Enjoy what these places have to offer while you’re there, from products to scenery, and come home feeling relaxed with tons of great memories.

A Natural Way to Treat Inflammation

It’s a sunny California day, you’re five minutes into your run and you’re all warmed up. You found your rhythm. Your pace and breath are aligned. Twenty minutes in and you begin to feel it, the elusive runner’s high. You feel like you could run for miles, so you do. As you start to cool down, you feel pain in your ankles, knees, hips, and lower back. Running is great exercise, however the friction it causes can trigger inflammation in your joints. Rather than reach for an ibuprofen or aspirin, consider an edible instead. Cannabis offers a natural way to effectively treat inflammation, so much so that many are using it to replace over-the-counter and prescription medications.

Which inflammatory diseases and issues does cannabis help?

  • Inflammatory bowel diseases; i.e., ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
  • Inflammation from liver disease.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis.

The information above is from the National Institute of Health’s study, Cannabinoids as novel-anti inflammatory drugs.

Anecdotally, we’ve connected with people who consume cannabis to treat headaches and relieve the symptoms of psoriasis and coeliac disease. Again, this information is anecdotal – there is no research to fully confirm just yet. However, there is no denying that cannabis has a wide range of medicinal benefits, but it’s up to each individual to discover how it can benefit their health and wellness. To learn more, you can read 3Leaf’s blog post Cannabis Effects to Meet Your Needs as well as our Ultimate Edibles Dosing Guide

Edibles offer long-lasting relief.

The effects of edibles can last for up to eight hours. The long-lasting effects of edibles mean you can consume less often and enjoy the healing and medicinal benefits long enough to get you through your day or help you achieve a sleep without any symptoms of inflammation.

3Leaf's Vegan Quinoa Granola Bite is low-sugar and contains 10 milligrams of THC distillate.
3Leaf’s Vegan Quinoa Granola Bites.

We have a friend, Richard, who consumes 3Leaf’s Quinoa Granola Bites regularly to help him keep the pain of inflammation at bay. You see, Richard is an active man in his early 60s who lives in Palm Springs. He golfs regularly and runs often. After a day of activities, he eats a Quinoa Granola Bite. He tells us that the dose of 10 milligrams of THC reduces the pain in his joints, and it also helps him to relax and get a restful sleep so that he can properly recover. In addition, these edibles are made with natural, whole-food ingredients and are sweetened with agave nectar rather than refined sugar. Sugar triggers inflammation, so it’s best to choose edibles that are naturally sweetened and contain a low-sugar content, like our Quinoa Granola Bite.

Why is cannabis an effective anti-inflammatory?

Inflammation occurs when the body’s immune system believes that we’re injured. White blood cells signal proteins, known as cytokines, to start the healing process. The release of cytokines can induce heat, pain, redness, swelling, and loss or misfiring of bodily functions. Quite often, the immune system misidentifies an injury or attack on our immune system, which can lead to a wide range of inflammatory issues such as fevers, headaches, arthritis, psoriasis, and inflammatory bowel diseases. Cannabis works with our body to mitigate and relieve the symptoms of such inflammatory issues and diseases.

Where prescription medications block the proteins that the brain releases in response to illness and injury, cannabis offers a natural solution for inflammation by working with our body’s immune system to suppress the proteins that cause the symptoms of inflammation. Research shows that cannabis suppresses the proteins that cause heat/fever, pain, redness, and swelling associated with inflammation. It also induces T-regulatory cells (T cells), which function to create balance in the immune system and prevent auto-immune diseases. Prescription medications block our body’s natural response to pain and can cause lead to harmful side effects. For example, the makers of Advil, whose active ingredient is ibuprofen, warns that it can cause ulcers, liver damage and kidney damage when taken in high-doses for long periods of time. Cannabis naturally balances out our immune system to alleviate the symptoms of inflammation. And, when consumed through an edible, you can enjoy up to eight hours of symptom relief.

3Leaf's micro-dosed Strawberry Fruit Jellies are made with natural fruit-puree and have 2.5 milligrams of THC per edible. They're sold in packs of four so you can build on your dose to meet your needs.
3Leaf’s Strawberry Fruit Jellies, 2.5mg THC per piece, four pieces per package.

We do not recommend switching your prescription medication for cannabis prior to consulting your doctor or physician. When incorporating cannabis into your healthcare, we do recommend starting with a micro-dose. And before increasing your dose wait at least two hours. Remember, low and slow so that you can enjoy a positive cannabis experience.

Here in California, we can enjoy a comfortable existence without ever having to leave our home. “Elevate your dinner with the MyJane approved Double Chocolate Chip Cookie. The 1:1 ratio makes this a low dose edible that delivers on taste and experience. Prepare to enjoy an evening of connection and calmness, by yourself or with a loved one. New to cannabis? 1:1 THC and CBD Edibles to Help You Embrace Aging

Getting older is something to embrace. With experience comes wisdom and with age comes a better perspective on what matters and what doesn’t. Yet it also brings with it aches, pains, and a whole variety of health issues that seem to sneak up out of nowhere. But there’s no need to fear growing old, or as we prefer to call it, growing better. Cannabis can help you manage the assortment of ailments that keep you up at night or hinder you throughout your day. Ratio-infused edibles with a 1:1 blend of THC and CBD, in particular, offer a unique set of mental and physical benefits.

You may have read that last sentence and said, what is a ratio-infused edible; when did math and cannabis get together; and, what are THC and CBD?! Take comfort in knowing that you’re not alone in feeling confused or overwhelmed. Let us and the Father of Cannabis – a nod to Father’s Day, coming up on June 16 – show you how cannabis can help you embrace aging!

*We also include some fun facts about cannabis throughout the post to add to your arsenal of fatherly wisdom 😉

Let’s start with the difference between THC and CBD

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are two of the most well-known cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. It’s believed that the first cannabis plants grew in Central Asia, specifically in Mongolia and southern Siberia. Its use dates back to China circa 4000 B.C. Cannabis was incorporated into spiritual practices and meditation and used as a medicine for issues such as rheumatic pain, constipation, and female reproductive disorders, i.e., endometriosis.

Symptoms/conditions that benefit from THC

  • Pain
  • Nausea
  • Muscle spasms
  • Insomnia
  • Loss of appetite
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

Benefits of CBD

  • Analgesic
  • Anti-anxiety
  • Anti-inflammatory (including auto-immune diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis)
  • Anti-convulsant
  • Anti-psychotic

Fact source: Practical considerations in medical cannabis administration and dosing, by Caroline MacCallum and Ethan Russo

Fast-forward a few hundred centuries to the 1980s when Raphael Mechoulam discovered how cannabis produces both mind-altering and medicinal effects. Mechoulam, known as the Father of Cannabis, was the first to isolate THC and CBD from cannabis and decipher the chemical makeup of each cannabinoid. Mechoulam identified that THC is the sole cannabinoid that produces psychoactive stimulation resulting in feelings of euphoria, known as a high. CBD, on the other hand, is non-intoxicating. Mechoulam’s discoveries unlocked a door that had long been shut to the medical potentials of cannabis. His research paved the way for other notable scientists, like Dr. Ethan Russo. Without these men pushing for a greater understanding of cannabis and its potential, we would not be seeing the end of cannabis prohibition as we are today.

Quote from Dr. Ethan Russo of the Cannabinoid Research Institute. The quote reads, "Cannabis is the single most versatile herbal remedy, and the most useful plant on Earth. No other single plant contains as wide a range of medically active herbal constituents."

Ratio-Infused Edibles: Best of Both Worlds to Keep Your Body In Balance

Not long after Mechoulam’s monumental discovery, he and his team identified that the human body has a system of chemical compounds that are strikingly similar to the ones found in cannabis. This system is known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS). Its purpose is to maintain homeostasis within the human body. The ECS is intertwined with a myriad of physiological functions, and Mechoulam discovered that cannabis significantly elevates the ability of the ECS to maintain balance and keep order throughout our bodily functions.

There are two key functions to the ECS. The first is the cannabinoid receptors, called CB1 and CB2 receptors. These receptors are located throughout the body with a high concentration of CB1 receptors in the central nervous system and CB2 receptorss predominantly in the immune system. The second key function of the ECS is endocannabinoids, which bind with the CB1 and CB2 receptors to activate them. These receptors monitor the conditions of our systems, and when they identify that an area of the body is over-active or not firing properly, the endocannabinoids stimulate the receptors to bring the area back to its optimal level. However, as we age, our bodies produce fewer endocannabinoids. The cannabinoids found in cannabis, i.e., THC and CBD, are just as effective as endocannabinoids, which makes cannabis a natural complement to our own physiology.

*Fun Fact: Endo means internal or from within. This illustrates that endocannabinoids are produced internally within the human body. Cannabinoids from cannabis are identified as phyto-cannabinoids; phyto meaning of a plant or related to plants.

Quote: THC elevates the healing effects of CBD and CBD moderates the elevating effects of THC.

THC binds with the CB1 and CB2 receptors to produce medicinal effects such as alleviated pain, improved digestion, and regulated emotions. However, THC is a powerful psychoactive stimulant, so too high of a dose can create adverse effects. Too much THC can produce feelings of paranoia or nausea. So it’s best to start with a micro- or low-dose – between 2.5mg and 5mg – to enjoy the many benefits of THC and mitigate any risks.

You may be more inclined to try CBD because it isn’t intoxicating. Many people today are interested in cannabis for its healing and therapeutic properties rather than for the euphoric effects; it’s becoming a mode for improving health and wellness above all else. CBD offers a wide variety of health benefits, yet it doesn’t bind as well with the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system.

So, consuming THC with CBD will help you to get the most out of each cannabinoid. THC elevates the healing effects of CBD and CBD moderates the elevating effects of THC. When consumed together, the two produce a perfect harmony that allows you to experience a full range of medicinal benefits from cannabis. A simple way to consume THC and CBD simultaneously is through ratio-infused edibles.

What is a 1:1 Ratio-Infused Edible?

Ratio-infused edibles have a combination of THC and CBD. The easiest way to tell if an edible is ratio-infused or not is to look at the label.

You’ll see below, 3Leaf’s Strawberry Fruit Jellies only contain THC. The label shows that each fruit jelly is infused with 2.5mg THC and 0mg CBD. If zero is listed next to THC or CBD on the label, the edible is not ratio-infused.

3Leaf's Strawberry Fruit Jellies have 2.5mg of THC per jelly and four jellies per package.

Now take a look below at 3Leaf’s Peanut Butter Cookies. You’ll see that each cookie is infused with 5mg of THC and 5mg of CBD. This is what’s known as a 1:1 ratio because it contains equal parts THC and CBD.

3Leaf's Peanut Butter Cookies are ratio-infused with an equal blend of THC and CBD distillate.

You can find ratio-infused products on the market that contain varying ratios of THC to CBD. Edibles with a higher ratio of THC typically produce effects that are more relaxing and sedating. And an edible with a higher ratio of CBD to THC offers effective pain relief with little-to-no intoxicating effects. However, the effects of cannabis vary for each individual; it is very much a personal experience. Embrace experimenting! Just remember to start with a low dose and consume slowly. Wait at least 2 hours before ingesting another edible.

A 1:1 ratio-infused edible is the ideal product to help with recovering after a day of strenuous activities. After playing a round of 18-holes on Father’s Day the equal blend of THC and CBD will provide the relief you need. Five milligrams of THC will help you relax and let go of the tension you built up from slicing the ball on the last five holes. The additional 5mg of CBD will help your muscles recover as well as reduce inflammation in your joints. This combination offers mildly elevating effects so you can enjoy the U.S. Open finals in absolute peace. A 1:1 ratio-infused edible offers a balanced experience so that you can get back to doing what you enjoy most in life.

3Leaf’s Best Edibles for Sleep

It’s amazing what a good night’s sleep can do for a person. Six to eight hours of sleep increases our ability to focus and manage multiple demanding tasks at once; and, well-rested people are typically more patient and pleasant to be around. Yet restful, uninterrupted sleep is something many of us rarely achieve. According to The American Sleep Association, 50 to 70 million people across the U.S. suffer from sleep disorders. With cannabis legalized to some capacity in 33 States today, we’re seeing more people turn to cannabis products to help them sleep. Its medicinal properties make cannabis a highly effective sleep aid, and it offers a natural alternative to prescription medication.

At 3Leaf, we’re able to connect with people who are willing to share their stories on how cannabis products improve their health and wellbeing. In these conversations, we’ve found a common thread between everyone who tries our Coconut Oatmeal Cookie and Quinoa Granola Bite. We hear that they have helped people achieve a peaceful night’s rest.

Here are three reasons why our original healthy edibles make an effective, natural sleep aid.

Healthy, high-quality ingredients to keep you satisfied and full.

When we set out to create 3Leaf, we promised ourselves that we would only make edibles that contain the highest quality, extensively natural ingredients. We live by this rule and apply it to both the food ingredients and the cannabis distillate that goes into our edible products.

Our Coconut Oatmeal Cookie and Quinoa Granola Bite contain hearty, high-protein ingredients like oats and quinoa and nuts. Whole-foods such as these keep you full for longer, so you won’t wake up in the middle of the night craving a snack. And these edibles are naturally sweetened with agave nectar. The fact that they aren’t loaded with refined sugar means that you’ll avoid those crazy sugar spikes – definitely not ideal if you’re trying to relax before bedtime.

In addition to high-quality food ingredients, we only infuse our edibles with the cleanest cannabis extract possible. The distillate infused in every 3Leaf edible comes from California-grown cannabis refined through CO2 super-critical extraction. This intricate process creates a clean, pure oil unlike any other cannabis extract. Distillate is known for reaching up to 99% potency. And the extraction process ensures that what’s left is a solventless oil with no harmful residues. The distillate is then tested at a lab to ensure that it is free of pesticides, heavy metals, and microbes. If you have a lot on your mind at the end of the day, the last thing we want to do is add another worry, which is why we’ve taken multiple steps to make sure our edibles are absolutely safe.

3Leaf's Coconut Oatmeal Cookies make the best edibles for sleep because they contain 10 milligrams of pure THC distillate, whole food ingredients, and low-sugar.

Precisely dosed with pure distillate for an effective experience.

The key to achieving the effects you want from cannabis is knowing how to dose. Luckily, edibles offer a great way to manage dosing. It’s easier to eat an edible with the same dose every time than it is to roll the same amount of flower into a joint and inhale the same amount every time. Moreover, edibles sold on the legal cannabis market must be precisely and consistently dosed to be considered compliant with California regulations. As per the California Department of Public Health, edibles cannot contain more than 10 milligrams of THC per piece and 100 milligrams of THC per package. And the Bureau of Cannabis Control implements strict laboratory testing to ensure that edibles meet these dosing requirements. When you purchase edibles from a licensed cannabis retailer, the dose that’s marked on the front of the package is the dose you can expect.

A 10mg dosed edible is ideal for achieving restful sleep. You can expect to experience the calming, sedative effects of cannabis from a 10mg dose. Typically, you will feel relaxed within half-an-hour to 45 minutes after eating a 3Leaf Coconut Oatmeal Cookie or Quinoa Granola Bite, dosed with 10mg of THC per edible. Shortly after, you should find yourself relaxed enough to fall asleep.

3Leaf's Quinoa Granola Bites make the best edibles for sleep because they are an effective, natural sleep aid. They contain high protein ingredients to keep you full for longer, and they have 10 milligrams of pure THC distillate for an effective cannabis experience.

Edibles provide a cannabis experience that lasts longer compared to all other consumption methods.

With cannabis, different consumption methods result in different experiences. The effects of smoking last between one and three hours, usually peaking within the first 20 minutes. Edibles have a longer onset time but their effects can last for up to eight hours. It can take 30 to 90 minutes to feel the effects of edibles, depending on various factors such as how much you’ve had to eat that day and how tired you are, so plan accordingly.

Mark, a 39-year-old who lives in San Diego and works as a software developer, recently told us about how he added 3Leaf edibles to his night-time routine. He’ll eat one Quinoa Granola Bite two hours before going to bed. For him, it typically takes about 45 minutes to feel the effects, depending on how much he’s had to eat that day and how tired he is. Once the effects of the edible kick in, he’ll allow himself an hour to enjoy the relaxing and calming effects that the THC provides. Winding down after a long day helps him slip into a deep sleep, and the sedative effects of THC keeps him in a steady sleep throughout the night – no more waking up at 2 a.m. with a racing mind!

Want to try edibles for sleep but you’re unsure of where to start?

If you’re fairly new to cannabis, you may benefit from trying a 1:1 ratio-infused edible first. Ratio-infused edibles contain both THC and CBD. A 1:1 ratio has 5mg of THC and 5mg of CBD per piece. THC provides a psychoactive elevating experience typically known as a high. CBD, on the other hand, is non-intoxicating. Many people are drawn to CBD for its calming and pain relieving properties that they can enjoy without the high. But, research shows that THC elevates the healing properties of CBD. And, CBD balances the elevating effects of THC. If you’re interested in trying edibles to help you sleep, 3Leaf’s 1:1 ratio-infused Peanut Butter Cookie and Double Chocolate Cookie offer a great introduction to edibles. The equal ratio provides both relaxing and pain-relieving effects to help you get a peaceful sleep.

3Leaf's Double Chocolate Cookie make the best edibles for sleep because they are a perfect for new consumers who want to try edibles to help them sleep. Why? These ratio-infused edibles contain a blend of THC and CBD to to help you relax and simultaneously relieve pain.
